FAQ
Thank you for choosing Kerslake Music for your musical instrument repair needs.
What types of musical instruments do you work on?
We repair many types of stringed instruments. This includes acoustic guitars, electric guitars, archtop guitars, electric basses, mandolins, ukuleles, dobros, and banjos. We do not repair fiddles nor do we repair upright basses. Additionally we do not repair guitar amps, pedals, keyboards, studio equipment, nor stereo equipment. For guitar amplifier repair we highly recommend Chad at Sinewaveamps.com.
How much will my repair cost?
Many common services are charged at a fixed rate (I.E. restrings, set ups, nuts, saddles, fretwork, neck resets, pickup installation). Custom work is charged on time and materials basis. Our bench rate as of January 2025 is $110 per hour. Please inquire for project specific pricing.
Do you offer rush/expedited repair work?
Depending on our current workload, we are sometimes able to accommodate rush repair services. Rush repair work is limited to certain types of jobs and is billed at a bench rate of $165 per hour.
What are your shop hours?
We are generally in the shop M-F during normal business hours but we do require an appointment for all visits.
Deposit and payment:
A 50% down payment is due for jobs totaling $300 or greater. Any outstanding balances must be paid at the time of the collection of your instrument. Please note that we do not accept credit cards, debit cards, nor personal checks.
A note about protective cases:
It is greatly preferred that you bring your instrument in a case. Instruments dropped off without a case are done so at the owner’s own risk. Kerslake Music LLC is not responsible for any damages incurred due to not having a proper protective case.
How will I know when my instrument is ready for pickup?
You will receive a text message notifying you that your instrument is ready for pickup. At the time of pickup, you must inspect your instrument and agree that all work has been completed satisfactorily and that their instrument is in the same condition as when it was dropped off. Please note that repairs may be visible.
How long do I have to pickup my instrument?
It is preferred that you pick up your instrument within 10 days of the completion of work. Instruments left for 30 days after completion will incur an $60 storage fee and an additional $15 per week thereafter. If extenuating circumstances prevent you collecting your instrument please contact us so that we are made aware of your particular situation.
Any instruments left beyond 90 calendar days are considered abandoned property to be addressed by California personal property law.
